lot of original antique american refinished steel artifacts salvaged from a. finkl and sons foundry during its demolition in 2015. the artifacts (recently decommissioned from the bldg. 51 museum archive) include gusset plates, oversized machine bolts and fragments from various buildings, sheds and equipment, including the giant hammer press. a. finkl & sons co. was founded in 1879 when german immigrant anton finkl developed a new kind of chisel to clean bricks from buildings destroyed in the great chicago fire. in 1902, the company moved to chicago's near north side. beginning in 2015, the former finkl foundry complex was demolished. priced for the lot.
