refinished original antique american industrial twisted wrought iron commercial building joist brackets tightly affixed to a long stretch of heavy duty solid oak wood recycled railroad boxcar flooring for use as a bench or console. the completely refinished c. 1870's chicago interior commercial building reinforced wrought iron joist hangers were likely fabricated by the f. l. heughes company, rochester, ny. the uniquely shaped bent and twisted wrought iron hangers were used for reinforcing large timber joists in a chicago commercial building undergoing demolition. the hangers have been brushed down to bare metal and sealed with a clear coat lacquer. aside from their intended use, the hangers have great design potential for repurposing with or without the use of wood. measures 52 x 12 x 14 1/2 inches.
