crude original and intact 1850's or 1860's richly colored aqua blue glass soda bottle with applied rounded collar manufactured for hassinger & o'brien in st. louis, mo. the glass features an unusual amount of bubbles, with allover seeding lending the glass a speckled visual texture. the front of the glass is embossed, but severely caseworn with the only legible lettering reading "mineral water" near the shoulder, and "st. louis" above the heel. less legible, very worn embossing still reads "hassinger & obrien / 17 & offalon st". the base has a shallow domed kickup from manufacture with iron pontil. john o'brien was in business by himself from 1863 to 1867. john o'brien had been in the soda business since the 1850s with the firms hassinger, haight & o'brien and then hassinger & o'brien.
