largely intact late 1940's vintage american industrial freestanding brushed metal three-unit barrister bookcase designed and fabricated by the globe-wernicke co., cincinnati, oh. the cold-rolled furniture sheet steel bookcase was salvaged from a detroit arsenal tank plant administration building. the crown and low-lying four-legged tubular square metal base are original to the cabinet. the clear glass sliding cabinet doors glide with ease. the brushed and sanded metal finish has been treated with a clear coat lacquer. the interior of each stackable module retains the original enameled finish. salvaged from the administration offices of the detroit arsenal tank plant, detroit, mich. the facility was the first manufacturing plant ever built for the mass production of tanks in the united states. measures 33 x 13 x 62 1/2 inches
