hard to find and highly collectible c. 1870's ornamental cast bronze residential doorknob backplate likely designed by louis widmayer of new britain, ct. the single keyhole door escutcheon features a very intricate design well-executed in deeply embossed cast bronze metal. the elegantly designed swinging keyhole cover is original and intact. the backplate features intense leafage, fanciful scrolls and animal heads. fabricated by the p. & f. corbin co., new britain, ct. nicely aged surface patina.
