original and intact ornamental gutta-percha interior residential passage door handles designed and fabricated by or for the russell & erwin mfg co., new britain, ct. the doorknobs were first introduced in their 1870 catalog as the "gothic" pattern. the catalog provides additional hardware belonging to their "lava line," which was available in various finishes. the original spindle, rosettes and washers are intact. the patent date is found on the backside of each rosette. more often than not, the doorknobs are found with deep cracks are substantial wear. the design elements on the knobs and rosettes are remarkably intact and crisp. priced for the set.
