original late 1880's antique ornamental cast bronze gothic style "screwless" spindle doorknob backplate featuring lightly incised quatrefoils. the passage door backplate or escutcheon was fabricated by the chicago hardware co., chicago, il. the backplate was designed specifically to accommodate the niles "screwless spindle" doorknobs. mostly uniform naturally aged surface patina. measures approximately 5 3/8 x 1 3/4 inches.
