seldom found antique american victorian era ornamental cast bronze exterior residential doorknob backplate possibly designed and fabricated by the russell & erwin mfg. co., new britain, ct. the oversized backplate retains the original swinging keyhole cover riveted in place. the backplate's finish was original nickel, but most of it has worn off. the highly ornamented backplate remains in great overall condition, considering age.
