late 19th or early 20th century oversized heavily ornamented cast bronze "pavia" pattern entrance door backplate or escutcheon, designed and fabricated by the p. & f. corbin co., new britain, ct. the intricately designed exterior doorknob backplate features a centrally located lion head within a cartouche, flanked by two cherubs in deep relief. the edges pf the backplate are adorned with fanciful scrolls and beads. the bottom portion of the plate features a palmette or anthemion design motif. mostly uniform finish throughout measures 18 1/4 x 4 inches.
