early 20th century highly detailed simmons' hardware company "builders' hardware catalogue no. 334." the hardbound catalog is an impressive and welll-maintained compilation of the door hardware, hinges, hooks, casters, and drawer pull designs popular in the early 20th century. page after page contains exquisitely detailed illustrations and carefully drafted design specifications with prices. the catalog's pressed leather hardcover has embossed gold metallic lettering with distinctive graphic design elements of the period, including the stamped or pressed design motifs that around found along the top and bottom of the front cover. the spine has some tearing at the feet and the binding is beginning to seperate from the exterior cover with one single page detached. the intricate illustrations found on every page arre most impressive. the simmons hardware company was a hardware manufacturer based in st. louis with locations in six states. the founder of the company was edward c. simmons, who started the company in 1874 and retired in 1898. the company's stock consisted of many items, including ammunition, knives, mincers, wires, and even dog collars. the company defined its products saying, "if you can't eat it, and it don't pour or fold, it's hardware". traveling salesmen were employed to sell any and all items throughut the country. the antique americaan catalogue measures approximately 9 x 12 inches
