very elaborate late 19th antique american freestanding ornamental cast iron revolving barbershop coat rack with a combination umbrella stand. the garment rack or stand was likely fabricated by the fred w. stecher co., cleveland, oh. the removable revolving top section contains four oversized bracket hooks fastened against the central pole. the slightly tapered and turned finial is original and intact. the highly curvaceous umbrella rack, consisting of open-ended rings, is wrapped firmly around the pole's midsection. the removable outswept legs with pierced filigree contain padded feet for added support and stability. the original nickel-plated finish was painted over long ago with an old metallic paint finish with surface crazing evident. remarkable american victorian barbershop store fixture.
