original 19th century american interior residential finely turned and tapered solid walnut wood staircase newel post salvaged from a chicago italianate style residence undergoing demolition. the late 1860's octagonal-shaped newel post was likely fabricated by palmer, fuller & co., chicago, il. the detachable newel cap contains a wedge-shaped opening where the handrail was mounted. traces of the original varnished finish remain intact. very unique and highly desirable profile. measures 6 1/2 x 61/2 x 35 inches.
