tribune tower sheds scaffolding well after year of restoration work

beginning in the summer of 2019, i began documenting the exterior of howells and hood's tribune tower (1925), shortly after it was announced that the building's bedford limestone exterior would receive extensive restoration, while the interior (with the exception of the ground floor lobby) would be transformed from commercial offices to condominiums. jarvis hunt's printing plant, completed in 1920, would be partially demolished and reconstructed.

i've since taken several thousand images of the building's transformation - both inside and out - during repeated visits to the site, where i thoroughly captured any and all changes made to the complex throughout 2018 and all of 2019. after a recent visit in the first week of 2020, i photographed the tower shortly after the scaffolding enshrouding it had been taken down. for the time-being, the gallery of images below will likely be my last in terms of covering the uppermost tower and the tradesmen who restored it.

additional thoughts from an earlier post:

tribune tower (howells and hood, 1925) sheds its scaffolding. after extensively documenting the building's transformation since summer of 2018 - both inside and out - i can finally close the chapter on this project and focus entirely on adler and sullivan's s.a. maxwell building (1881).
i must have nearly 7000 tribune images that are parked on one of many external hard drives housed in a safe - where i can close the door and forget it all happened. quite frankly, i didn't find the work terribly interesting, but when a historic chicago building undergoes changes, it must be documented.
