original nicely worn and weathered american made antique industrial depression era "turtle" style coal miner's hard had with original brass "auto-lite" designed and fabricated by the universal lamp company, chicago, il. the hardened leather and/or composition miner hat was used in a deep shaft western pennsylvania coal mine. the bracket used to attach the lamp to the hat is original and mounted tightly in place. very unique and distinctive profile. the stitched patch reads "cool cap" with patents.
