original and intact utilitarian c. 1930's american depression era industrial wall-mount factory assembly plant unornamented cast iron freight elevator up/down car call box designed and fabricated by a. kieckhefer elevator company, milwaukee, wisc. the single refinished iron case retains the original bakelite or composite push buttons with surface wear evident. the mechanized parts are enclosed within a tapered or slanted protruding case or box affixed to a base plate with two machine screws. the words "up" and "down" are positioned above each button. a total of four matching units were salvaged from a sprawling chicago area factory complex. the boxes were used with the elevator housed within the tour containing the water tanks. each push button elevator car call box has been brushed down to bare metal and sealed with a clear coat lacquer. priced individually. measures 3 x 5 x 1 1/4 inches.
