single original 19th century refinished solid cedar wood structural and/or load-bearing residential foundation post salvaged from a victorian era chicago worker's cottage undergoing demolition. the oversized solid hand-hewn wood circular-shaped piling was originally used to support the interlocking mortised and tenoned sill plates containing the vertical studs used for framing out the cottage. the solid wood piling was closely spaced (in relation to other pilings) under any and all sill plates, including the massive centrally located summer beam running parallel with the sill plates or timbers. the post was likely used as a temporary foundation when the cottage was moved to the back of the lot in preparation for constructing the two flat brick residence. several posts available. the repurposed freestanding piling makes for a great display stand. the recently decommissioned 19th century salvaged chicago wood-framed residential foundation posts have been carefully documented. these artifacts belonged to the bldg. 51 museum collection. the important chicago balloon frame artifacts are offered exclusively by urban remains. over a hundred chicago balloon frame artifacts are now available for sale. the posts were salvaged from a wood-framed workers cottage located at 1243 w. henderson street.
