hard to find original and intact late 19th century ornamental white porcelain or vitreous china apothecary or "druggist" cabinet drawer pull designed and fabricated by fay & schueler, st. louis, mo. the delicate sliding drawer pull features lightly embossed floral motifs accentuated and/or outlined in hand-applied god leaf. the prominent shadowed lettering is finished in baked black enamel. the "sodae boras" tincture or concoction (often written as a latin derivative) is more commonly known as sodium borate or "borax." the porcelain drawer pull was salvaged from a badly damaged apothecary cabinet. contains two opposed holes for mounting purposes. measures 4 1/4 x 2 1/4 x 1 inches.
