lavishly designed antique ameican ornamental cast bronze interior residential doorknob backplate with a deep-seated collar or thimble. the intricately detailed backplate features opposing figural lion heads, flame finial, ribbons, laurel wreaths and textured field patterns. the deeply embossed doorknob backplate was likely manufactured by the reading hardware company around 1910. mostly uniform surface patina. measures approximately 9 1/4 x 2 1/8 inches.
