single 19th century original "oriental" pattern interior residential ornamental cast brass eastlake style doorknob backplate or escutcheon designed and fabricated by branford lock works, branford, ct. the passage door backplate retains the original baked black enameled inlay used to accentuate the casting detail. the backplate features the hard to find diamond-shaped protruding collar or thimble with grooves on each of the sides. multiple backplates, strike plates and mortise locks are available. salvaged from a recently demolished chicago worker's cottage constructed around 1887. backplate measures 1 3/4 x 6 inches.
