19th century ornamental cast brass american eastlake style "ceylon" pattern entrance door backplate or escutcheon. fabricated around 1885-88 by the p. & f. corbin co., new brtiain, ct. the antique american doorknob backplate contains two keyhole openings with the original swinging keyhole cover lost/removed long ago. the wrought brass collar or thimble remains perfectly intact. nicely aged surface patina. very popular pattern used throughout the late 19th and early 20th century. measures approximately 7 x 1 3/4 inches.
