early 20th century antique american stamped or pressed brass metal exterior doorknob "creston" pattern backplate salvaged from a chicago two-flat residence. fabricated around 1910 by the reading hardware company, reading, pa. the fanciful embossed entrance door escutcheon contains a wrought brass collar or thimble, two screw holes (for mounting purposes) and a circular opening for a cylinder lock. surface wear evident. measures approximately 9 3/4 x 2 3/4 inches.
