early 1930's antique american depression era industrial reinforced galvanized steel foot-operated "empty every night" oily rag factory waste can designed and fabricated by the keyes-davis company, inc., battle creek, mi. the all-metal trash can contains a customary cylindrical shape supported by three flat strips of metal with a convex upper face. the pressed and formed rolled rim top contains riveted joint metals straps and springs serving as the hinge mechanism and foot pedal. the bent steel handle is secured tightly to the backside of the can. surface wear consistent with age. original black enameled lettering found above the foot pedal. the "lock-tite" oily rag waste can was salvaged from a chicago area tool and die factory. 15" diameter x 19" height.
