late 1940's or early 1950's antique american industrial outdoor chicago chinatown city street storefront neon arrow sign likely fabricated by the white way sign co., chicago, il. the nicely weathered and worn double-sided "can" sign is comprised of pressed and folded steel .the brightly colored yellow used with hand-painted red lettering draws attention to the arrow. the characters translate to "please go upstairs" in cantonese. the original neon transformer remains intact. the glass tubing was removed long ago. the sign was mounted against a storefront containing a second floor chinese restaurant. measures 24 x 10 1/4 x 60 inches.
