unique early 20th century antique american freestanding bird cage hanger or stand fabricated by a.b. hendryx & co., new haven, ct. the bird stand features a solid yellow brass c-arm with simple hook. perhaps the most appealing feature is the art nouveau style base consisting of four curvaceous legs with scrolled feet. the iron and brass have been refinished and treated with a clear coat lacquer. the multi-purpose stand can be used to hang any number of objects, plants, etc. lamp not included. the andrew b. hendryx co. was established in 1875, specializing in the manufacture of bird cages and related accessories. by the early 1880's a.b. & co. eventually moved into other areas of interest, including, but not limited to, fishing reels, lures, etc. by the late 19th and early 20th century a.b. hendryx was considered one of the largest manufacturers of fishing reels and metal baits.
