exceptional refinished antique american medical adjustable height hospital examination room chair, used by dentists, optometrists, and other practitioners throughout the first half of the 20th century. the swivel chair was designed and fabricated by the frank s. betz company, hammond, indiana. several manufacturers of hospital equipment made variations of this chair. the bow back medical chair is comprised entirely of heavy gauge all-welded joint steel. the original "white line" baked enameled finish was considerably worn. the stationary base contains fanciful bent tubular steel cabriole style legs reinforced with and x-shaped stretcher. the seat is supported by a single revolving solid steel threaded spindle that is mounted to the underside of the chair. the slat back chair features highly curvaceous tubular steel arms. the original adjustable padded headrest is available. the brushed metal finish has been sealed with a clear coat lacquer to prevent surface corrosion. excellent example of an early steel examination chair. measures approximately 21 x 20 x 47 with a seat height of 25 inches.
