19th century original antique american victorian era metallic gold enameled ornamental cast iron interior residential fireplace grate or surround designed and fabricated by the peerless mfg. co., louisville, ky. the protruding hood contains strap work, volutes and egg & dart edges. the lower detachable ash grates are original and intact. the summer front or cover and backing were removed long ago. measures 25 x 30 3/4 inches.
