very unique and visually distinctive late 1930's american interior ceiling mount cast bronze candelabra chandelier salvaged from the chicago athletic association annex building during renovation. the incredibly heavy 8-arm chandelier light fixture contains a mostly uniform dark surface patina throughout. the highly stylized "trumpet" arms are mounted vertically against a large grooved ring. the four supporting chain arms and canopy are original and intact. the "dripping wax" candle sleeves are period appropriate. the keyless hubbell candelabra incandescent lamp sockets are in great condition, considering age. the 20-story prairie style chicago athletic association annex (also known as the chicago athletic club addition or "madison building") was designed by the notable chicago-based architectural firm of martin, garden & schmidt. the madison street landmarked high-rise was added to the existing 11-story neo-venetian style chicago club association building constructed in 1893 by architect henry ives cobb. the towering "gardenesque" style red brick and ornamented limestone annex was completed in 1907, with an additional eight floors added in 1925. together the two buildings form an l-shape wrapping around willoughby tower. the annex contained the famous "cherry circle" bar room, lodging, the crystal room, offices and a presidential suite on the 18th floor. the exact light fixture fabricator is not known. measures approximately 28 x 34 inches.
