very ornate early 1870's american high victorian interior residential vestibule door oversized mortise lock designed and patented by emery parker for the russell & erwin mfg. co., new britain, ct .the lock box is comprised of cast iron with original "japanned" or baked black enameled finish. the ornamental bronze metal faceplate with intricate floral motifs has been slightly darkened with the use of an oil-based metallic bronze enameled finish. the original dead and latch bolts remain intact. measures approximately 7 1/4 x 1 1/8 x 3 3/4 inches.
