refinished oversized vintage american industrial city of chicago stationary bridge warning signal light designed and fabricated by or for the b & b enginnering corporation, norwood, la. the reinforced cast aluminum and steel signal light or lantern was one of three used in a triangular configuration, with the bottom light indicting the bridge opening found just above the water level. the third light is typically mounted directly underneath the bridge at its center point. this lighting arrangement assists the boat or vessel operator to navigate accordingly when approaching the bridge - especially in unfavorable lighting conditions. the weatherproof cast aluminum housing retains the original heavy duty solid red glass fresnel lens. a single incandescent light bulb socket provides the source of illumination. the hinged cap or cover can be opened with ease to quickly and efficiently change out light bulbs. the industrial chicago bridge signal light was salvaged from a non-extant division street bridge long ago. the threaded steel pipe and flange are original to the lantern. the brushed and sanded bare metal finish has been sealed with a clear coat lacquer. great working condition. 11 x 11 x 18 inches
