remarkable c. 1880's antique american all original oversized ornamental cast bronze "for newspapers" residential or commercial entrance door flush mount mail slot. the nicely aged surface patina remains amazingly undisturbed. the mail slot contains a large opening with hinged door containing fanciful lettering. very intricate and highly stylized design motifs. likely manufactured by sargent hardware co., new haven, ct. measures 11 x 4 inches.
