remarkable late 19th century original seldom found freestanding cast iron and fluted or grooved yellow tubular brass double pole garment rack originally used in a chicago dry goods or clothing store undergoing demolition. the garment rack was likely relegated to the basement since the depression. the weighted cast iron base is finely designed and detailed with a distinctive bellflower profile. the centrally located section used to secure the opposed rods or posts is comprised of cast iron with faint traces of a copper-plated finish. the top finial consists of a ball with tassel. the original endcaps are original and intact. the garment rack has been brushed down to bear metal and sealed with a clear coat lacquer. measures 25 x 15 1/2 x 72 inches.
