remarkably intact privy dug 1880's aqua blue chicago hutchinson style "blobtop" soda bottle manufactured for chicago bottler james stenson. the squat shoulders and neck are finished with an applied blob top. embossed vertically on the glass is the bottler's name, abbreviated to "jas stenson". surface wear and discoloration from being buried are evident. crudities are consistent with age and date of manufacture, including casewear on the embossing, stretch marks and bubbles. according to an 1876 lakeside annual city directory, james stenson manufactured soda water at 99 west monroe, the address that had previously housed the adam amberg & green mineral bottling works in the late 1860s, and the arnold & green spruce beer bottling works in the early 1860s. stenson was known to have a short-lived business partnership with john amberg from 1869-70. only one available.
