exceptional american art deco c. 1930's depression era figural radio lamp containing a centrally located crackle glass cube shade flanked by to nude females or nymphs. the frankart lamp is comprised of cast zinc or "pot metal" with the original bronze finish largely intact. the single incandescent socket and on/off switch are intact and fully functional. both the frosted white crackle texture shade and figural lamp fixture are free from cracks or breaks. the "1254" cube lamp has been rewired with period appropriate lamp cord and a bakelite plug. the frankart company was founded by sculptor arthur frankenberg, who designed and produced several decorative objects and/or forms such as figural ashtrays, clocks, bookends, etc. in new york city during the early 1920's. in 1924, he incorporated under the name frankart, inc. as a designer and sculptor, frankenberg created some of the companys most stylized art deco and art nouveau statuary pieces. after a dispute with his partners in 1930, he left the company, changed his name to von frankenberg, and founded quoizel metal art company. he took some of his designs with him to quoizel, and placed them on marble or onyx bases, as the metal bases were already stamped with the frankart name. quoizel was in business for less than a year, closing in late 1931. the frankart company closed a few years later in 1935. measures 15 x 6 x 7 1/4 inches.
