very unique and hard to find original and well-maintained american industrial diminutive 70th anniversary crane company building souvenir comprised of highly detailed cast bronze. the two-part (base and workshop) company souvenir is a detailed representation of crane's first workshop, in the form of a frame dwelling with an open gabled roof. the detachable base contains a unique slightly raised edge consisting of pipes and corner bend fittings. the dwelling is affixed to the base with two screws. the sign board running parallel with the roofline or tie beam reads "‘r. t. crane, brass and bell foundry." the exact fabricator of the american made souvenir is not known. contains a uniform matte finish. the crane company was formed by richard and charles crane as "r.t. & bro." in 1855. crane manufactured and sold brass goods and plumbing supplies and later supplied pipe and steam-heating equipment in large public buildings such as the cook county courthouse and the state prison at joliet. by 1865, when the name of the company was changed to the northwestern manufacturing co., it ran a large pipe mill and manufactured engines and steam pumps; by 1870, when it employed about 160 people, it was making elevators as well. after the chicago fire of 1871, the company decided to expand its operations that saw remarkable growth throughout the 20th. measures 4 1/2 x 3 x 2 1/2 inches
