completely intact late 19th century nickel-plated ornamental cast iron interior lobby "sullivanesque" style elevator floor indicator lamp or "lantern" with matching opalescent white glass globes. recently acquired from a notable collection containing historically important building artifacts, drawings, etc. the office building elevator lamp was removed from the rockefeller building, which was designed and built by the architectural firm of knox and elliott in 1905. the sullivan-inspired building was the first large commercial building employing a structural steel skeleton to be erected in cleveland. exterior design elements were inspired by louis sullivan's guaranty building. the shade fitter containing the sockets has a very intricate organic design. unusual geometric shapes adorn the arm or bracket and the base plate. likely fabricated by the winslow brothers of chicago, il.
