remarkable all original and intact c. 1890-1910 antique american carved limestone cornerstone salvaged from a chicago church building demolished in the 1980's. unfortunately, very little is known about the building, nor the stone mason who laid the book. we have failed to locate h. salzberg in late 19th or early 20th century chicago city directories as of this writing. we do know it was salvaged from a church building constructed in the late 19th or early 20th century. the large deeply recessed opening once contains a copper time capsule that was likely handed over to the church when discovered. the carved limestone is surprisingly small in size, when considering the average size of building cornerstone from this time period. the deeply incised lettering is clear and distinct. the stone was likely sized and carved by the bedford steam stone works, beford, ind. measures 16 3/4 x 10 x 10 1/4 inches.
