massive original early 20th century antique american industrial c. 1907-15 portable railroad caboose tail lamp or possibly a cupola signal lamp likely designed and fabricated by the adams & westlake co., chicago, il. the old green enameled steel lantern or lamp contains multiple incredibly thick glass fresnel lenses with surface wear and hairline cracks evident. the rounded or curved vent above provides dissipation of heat generated from within. the signal lantern retains the original drop handle. the early green paint finish was likely applied shortly after fabrication. the overall shape and size are unusual. the structural integrity of the lantern is sound and solid.
