original american 19th century solid cast bronze pullman railroad passenger car saloon door lock with stationary doorknob and privacy latch. the recessed cup handle with rotating t-handle was mounted on the opposite side of the saloon door. original latch bolts in working condition. fabricated by the adams & westlake, elkhart, ind. the surface-mount lock, knob and cup handle contain a nicely aged surface patina. the adams & westlake was founded in 1857 in chicago, illinois. in the beginning, they began manufacturing and selling railroad supplies and hardware. with the opening of the american west and expansion of the railroads, the company prospered and diversified. within 45 years, adlake became one of the largest suppliers of equipment to the transportation industry in the world. in 1927, adlake relocated to its present site in elkhart, indiana.
