one of a kind and completely intact american art deco style interior elevator cab or car operator stool salvaged from the extant elizabeth arden building located in chicago. the stationary stool features a weighted octagonal-shaped base with a distinctive "stepped" profile. the tubular post retains the original fixed double-sided decorative footrest. the round swivel seat is comprised of heavy gauge folded and pressed sheet steel with a solid wood core. the elevator operator stool has been brushed down to bare metal and sealed with a clear coat lacquer. the neo-gothic style elizabeth arden building was built in 1926 by architect andrew n. rebori. the 12-story building contains a setback facade comprised of a light brown limestone. the stool was removed long ago during interior renovation. the exact fabricator is not known. likely made for the otis elevator company. seat height measures 25 inches.
