original c. 1933-34 cherry red porcelain enameled die cut steel chicago "century of progress" world's fair souvenir in the form of a brightly ashtray. the promotional porcelain souvenir was fabricated by or for the porcelain enamel institute of chicago, located in the general exhibition building with a small firing kiln on site. fairgoers could "customize" their own pre-fired souvenir, which in this case, is simply the signature of the individual. measures approximately 5 inches in diameter. the bottom side retains the original felt "coaster" affixed tightly in place with little wear or tear evident.
