fully functional 19th century american residential "rope" pattern mortise lock designed and patented by j. lochner for the norwalk lock company, south norwalk ct. the working mortise lock features an ornamental cast bronze face plate consisting of leafage, rosettes and rope motifs. the latch and dead bolts are original and intact. the cast iron case retains the original baked black enameled (i.e., japanned) finish. black enameled inlay heightens the contrast. between the various design motifs employed. measures approximately 1 x 6 1/4 x 3 1/2 inches.
