rare and all original mid-nineteenth century medium blue aqua glass quart size porter-shaped bottle manufactured for a. nicholson in pittsburgh, pa. the full bodied glass has high shoulders that taper into a long, wide neck finished with an applied inverted taper that exhibits heavy slop. it would have been closed with a cork stopper. the front body is embossed crisply with the bottler's name and location. at the base is a moderate, rounded kickup with no residue from the iron pontil. seams evidence manufacture with a keyed hinge mold. there is a significant crack all around the bottle near the heel that has been repaired but a chip remains missing. crudities are typical of its age and date of manufacture, including allover seeding, whittling, and minor surface wear. measures 8 1/2 inches tall.
