original american industrial depression era "simmons" brushed metal hospital room lowboy dresser cabinet designed and patented albert witke et al. in 1932. the highly durable "sheet metal" furniture piece was fabricated by the simmons manufacturing company, kenosha, wi. the lowboy cabinet contains three sliding drawers with intact pressed steel knob pulls. the oversized arch top swivel mirror is attached to flanking turned and tapered tubular steel uprights. the legs retain the original pressed steel swivel casters (likely bassick). simmons was known for their furniture and bedding, designed especially for "hospitals, hotels, tourist cabins and steamships. uniform brushed metal finish throughout. measures 36 x 20 x 36 inches.
