all original 19th century american high victorian freestanding ornamented cast iron exterior residential newel post designed and fabricated by the dearborn foundry co., chicago, il. the turned and tapered iron fence post contains swirling foliage and deeply embossed acanthus leaves. the oversized urn-shaped finial is adorned with intricate floral motifs, cartouches and leafage. the unusual pyramidal top panels contain deeply recessed regions with detachable cast iron letters. the black enameled finish is mostly uniform throughout. two matching posts available, priced individually. measures 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 x 40 inches.
