largely intact american victorian era turned and tapered freestanding solid walnut wood interior residential staircase landing newel post likely fabricated by the goss & phillips mfg. co., chicago, il. the elegantly designed lathe-turned newel post was salvaged from a chicago italianate residence undergoing demolition. the original newel cap (likely integrated with the railing with a large threaded bolt) was lost long ago. original varnished finish largely intact. general surface wear expected with age. measures 8 x 8 x 41 inches.
