hard to find oversized antique american industrial interior "corona" x-ray mercury glass reflector floodlight, originally used for "spot-light" sales in a typical early 20th century department or dry goods store. the first x-ray reflector was designed in 1897 by the curtis lighting company of chicago. the glass reflectors were hand-made from a special grade of glass, free from "seeds", "bubbles" and discoloration. the reflecting element applied to the outer surface of this unusual glass is pure silver, completely protected by the glass on the inner side. the golden armor finish is a scientific process in curtis research laboratories, designed to keep "the silver bright." the style of lamp uses 300-500 watt bulbs to produce a "flood of light." the black enameled porcelain and metal bracket fittings are original to the fixture. the shade is outfitted with the original curtis strip socket housing and fitter with a short studded base for threaded pipe. the original black enamel porcelain screw base socket is intact. measures 13 inches in diameter x 11 inches in height.
