original and intact freestanding solid hand carved figural oak wood booth seat end purportedly removed long ago from the sunset or grand terrace cafe located in the chicago's bronzeville neighborhood. the remarkably heavy and robust deep relief carved wood interior sectional features a number of musicians with instruments (e.g., trumpet, piano, etc.). the historically important jazz age artifact was found in the collection of an individual who's company built back and front bars and other furniture beginning in the early 1920's. the business closed in the late 1940's or 1950's. several artifacts, overstock, signage and furniture were hidden away in a warehouse. the long and narrow carved block of oak wood contains a weathered metallic gold enameled finish throughout. measures 11 x 4 x 60 1/2 inches.
