original and completely functional c. 1880's antique american decorative cast iron "crisscross" pattern residential entrance door "letters" hinged mailslot designed and fabricated by the p. & f. corbin co., new britain, ct. the pivoting cover plate and surrounding frame have been brushed down to bare metal and sealed with a clear coat lacquer. the flush mount mail slot contains two opposed screw holes for mounting purposes. measures 5 1/2 x 2 1/4 inches.
