single well-maintained all original c. 1890's flush mount ornamental black enameled salvaged chicago cast iron floor registers designed and fabricated by the tuttle & bailey mfg., co., new york city, ny. the strongly geometric and functional floor grate retains the original border or surround. the multiple louvers are controlled by a threaded lever or "thumb" wheel. one louver was damaged or removed long ago. the grate and matching surround were salvaged from a chicago house undergoing demolition. several wall and floor grates were carefully removed from the house. measures 17 1/2 x 13 1/2 inches.
