completely intact 19th or early 20th century american victorian era patented flush mount ceiling or floor register designed and fabricated by tnovelty iron works, sterling, ill. the intricate ventilation cover is comprised of three detachable cast iron or possibly "ferrosteel" with full functionality. the brushed and sanded bare metal finish has been sealed with a clear coat lacquer. the circular-shaped grate contains a centrally located stove pipe cover or center designed to protect the opening when used in conjunction with a stovepipe. the surrounding rope motif border (used twice) add visual distinction. the rotating two-part louver can be open or closed (manually operated).
